Smalltown Boy Dance Template

How the Smalltown Boy dance template works, what stays fixed in the clip, and why one prepared routine beats writing a video prompt from scratch.

What a Smalltown Boy dance template is

A Smalltown Boy dance template is a finished clip with two replaceable performers. The fence, the ivy, the autumn light, the routine and the camera move are already locked in the template. Your job is to supply two photos: one for the dancer closest to the camera, one for the dancer behind.

The template runs 22 seconds in a 9:16 vertical frame, which is the native shape of the trend and the shape TikTok, Reels and Shorts expect.

What the template keeps fixed

The template carries everything the trend depends on:

  • the set: a red wooden fence with ivy running along it, leaves on the ground, overcast autumn light
  • the routine: the hands-to-head gesture, the arm out to the side, the open-mouth expression and the sway, at the same beats
  • the camera: one handheld take that rolls between the two performers, with no cuts or transitions
  • the depth: the front performer large and close, the second performer smaller and softer behind

None of that is configurable, and that is the point. The parts that make the clip recognisable are the parts you cannot accidentally break.

Why the template swaps two subjects

The routine is a duet, so a single replacement would leave the original second dancer standing behind the upload. Both slots have to be filled for the clip to read correctly, which is why the generator requires two photos before it will submit a task.

The second slot also accepts a pet. A cat or dog keeps its own face, fur and body shape, and the routine timing still comes from the template, so the pet moves on the same beat rather than standing still.

What to upload

One clear, front-facing photo per slot, one subject per photo, even lighting, no sunglasses and no heavy filters. Crop to the head and shoulders if the original photo has a lot of empty space, because the template already supplies the pose and the outfit.

If you are using the pet version, a clear photo of the animal's face works best. The template handles the body and the movement.

What the template does not do

It does not add the song, because the track behind the trend is copyrighted. The render comes back silent so you can add the audio inside the app you publish from. It also does not let you change the location, the lighting or the choreography: those are the fixed parts of the format.

Try the template

Upload two photos, keep the template, and render the routine. The examples on the landing page show the same template with two different human pairs and with a fully generated character scene, so you can see how much of the clip survives the swap.

Two photos, one prepared routine, one finished clip.
